Part 2: You will hear a programme coordinator describing the main events at a town festival.
HOST: The festival opens this weekend. With me is the programme coordinator, Lena Brooks. Lena, what should people look out for? LENA: We have a mix across the three days. Some events are calm and some are more energetic. LENA: Most events are in the centre, but a couple are spread out, so it helps to check the map before you set off. LENA: If you are coming with children, there are staff in bright vests near the main square to point you in the right direction. LENA: And if it rains, a few sessions may move indoors, so listen out for announcements on the day.
LENA: First, on Friday evening, there is the Neon Alley Walk. It takes place outdoors after dark, and stewards guide people through a lit route. It starts at 8.00 and it lasts about forty minutes. LENA: It is not a race, and the stewards will pause if the group gets too stretched out. LENA: Comfortable shoes are a good idea because the ground can be uneven in places.
LENA: On Saturday morning, there is the Pair and Share Quest. People sign up in pairs or small groups and solve clues around the centre. It works best when you split the tasks between you. LENA: You do not need any special knowledge, just a phone to scan one of the clues near the end.
LENA: If you like making things, try the Upcycle Build Session. You will make something simple to take home using materials that are provided. Places are limited, so it helps to sign up as soon as you arrive.
LENA: Later that day, there is the Two Minute Tale Contest. Each person tells a short story and a panel chooses winners in a few categories. LENA: If you want to enter, you can put your name down at the desk from midday, and they will give you a time slot.
LENA: For something practical, we also have a Basic First Aid Mini Course. It goes step by step through a couple of key skills, including what to do while waiting for help. LENA: Please be there five minutes before it starts, because the instructor begins on time and the group is kept small.
LENA: Finally, on Sunday afternoon, we are holding a Charity Plant Sale. All money raised goes to the local youth shelter, and volunteers will explain how the funds are used.
HOST: Is there one thing you would recommend most? LENA: Yes, the Friday evening comedy set. It is funny, but it also has a message about how neighbours can support each other. HOST: Any advice for visitors? LENA: Two tips. Arrive early on the busiest day, and check the festival website on the day you are coming, in case times change.
