Part 2: You will hear a facilities manager guiding staff through new ergonomic workspace guidelines and a Wellness Zone.
Hi everyone. I’m the facilities manager at the Westwood branch. Today, I’ll guide you through the new ergonomic workspace guidelines and give you a quick tour of our Wellness Zone.
First, you might wonder why we built this space. Some assumed it was to host department meetings or to store extra medical supplies. While we do have a first-aid kit here, the actual objective was to limit workplace injuries. We noticed a rise in physical complaints, and we want to tackle those early.
Regarding access, you might be tempted to spend your entire lunch break relaxing in here for a full hour. However, due to capacity limits, we ask that you restrict your visits to exactly twenty minutes per session. This ensures all colleagues get a fair chance to utilize the room.
We also brought in some excellent adjustable desks. Before you use them, there is a mandatory requirement. We used to hand out paper manuals or ask you to sign a permission sheet, but that was too slow. Now, you must finish an online module on the intranet. Complete that digital lesson and you’ll be cleared.
If you still experience persistent aches, seek personalized advice. Don’t bother going to a department head, as they aren’t trained in that area, and the human resources officer only handles administration. Instead, book an appointment with an external specialist who visits our office fortnightly. They provide proper clinical assessments.
Okay, let’s look at the layout on your map. We have designed this layout to ensure a smooth flow of foot traffic. We are currently standing at the main entrance, located right at the south end of the building.
Looking straight ahead from the south entrance, right in the exact middle of the room, you will see a large circular space marked out on the floor. This is the posture assessment area. It is centrally located so our visiting specialists have plenty of room to easily walk around you and check your alignment from all angles.
Next is the hydration station. You will want to head towards the north-west corner of the facility. You will find it positioned flat against the north wall. It sits just to the left of the row of glass rooms.
If you are planning to use the stretching mats, you will need to head over to the south-east corner. Coming through the main entrance, just turn right immediately. You will see them neatly folded in that bottom corner space, right next to a mirror.
For extra back support at your regular desk, you can grab one of our lumbar cushions. Walk past the main reception desk in the south-west corner and head straight north. Keep walking, and you will find them sitting on a shelf exactly halfway up that western wall.
Now, looking right at the north end of the building, you will notice there is a row of three enclosed, soundproofed glass rooms. The standing desks are located directly in the room right in the middle of those three.
Finally, we have our brand new eye-resting booths. They are completely darkened to help you recover from screen glare. You will find these inside the enclosed room situated in the north-east corner of the Wellness Zone, which is just to the right of those standing desks.
