Part 2: You will hear a manager giving an orientation to new members of a community podcast studio.
MANAGER: Alright, let’s get started. Welcome, everyone, to the Cobalt Audio Hub. I’m thrilled to see so many new faces joining our podcasting community today. Before making that very first room reservation, there is one step you need to take. You don’t have to pay any extra deposits, and you’ve already signed the user agreement when you registered. However, we do require everyone to watch a brief online tutorial about handling our gear.
Now, regarding reservations. We want to be fair to all creators in the community. You can book multiple times a month, but for a single session, the system limits you to a maximum of four hours. Three hours isn’t quite enough time, and six hours means rooms sit empty. So, four hours seems to be the sweet spot.
We also understand that plans change. If you cannot make your slot, please cancel it. We ask that you give us notice of at least eight hours. We used to ask for forty-eight hours, but that was too strict. Just don’t leave it until three hours before, as that’s too late for someone else to claim the slot.
Let’s talk about refreshments next. You absolutely cannot take any snacks or beverages inside the recording booths, as accidental spills ruin the electronics. However, they aren’t completely banned from the building. You are more than welcome to eat and drink in the communal lounge area just down the hall.
If you notice a microphone acting up, please don’t try to fix it yourself. You might think of messaging the remote technical support team, but they are off-site and handle software issues. And the front desk reception staff are only trained for handling reservations. Instead, you need to find the duty manager, who is always walking around the floor, and they will safely swap the broken equipment out for you.
Let’s briefly go over the specific rooms we have here at the Hub. Let’s start with The Echo Lounge. This is a very popular space. While most of our booths are strictly audio-only, this one is entirely equipped with video recording gear, including high-definition cameras and proper illumination rings, perfect for vloggers.
Next is The Whispering Vault. Usually, this is our quietest space for solo narrators. However, you cannot book it right now. We discovered a leak in the ceiling last week, so it is currently undergoing repairs. We hope to reopen it by next month.
Then we have Studio Orion. Anyone can use it, but it is prioritized for live broadcasting because it has a direct, hardwired internet line to prevent connection drops.
If you have a discussion planned, book The Zenith Pod. Most booths fit three or four people, but this room is suitable for large groups, seating up to eight guests around a massive circular table.
Finally, we have Chamber Nova. This is our premium editing suite. Because the software installed on these computers is incredibly expensive, the door isn’t left unlocked. It actually requires a specific password to enter, which you have to request from me personally.
