Part 1: You will hear a conversation between a receptionist and a caller who wants to book a seasonal vaccination.
RECEPTIONIST: Good morning, Brayford Crescent Health Centre. This is Nina speaking. How can I help you today?
CALLER: Hi, I’d like to book a seasonal vaccination, please. I’m calling because I saw a notice about it and I’d like to make an appointment.
RECEPTIONIST: Certainly, we can help with that. Is that for the flu vaccine or for a COVID booster?
CALLER: The flu vaccine, please. I had my COVID booster earlier this year.
RECEPTIONIST: That’s fine. Before I check the available times, I’ll need to take a few details. Do you have a patient number? It’s usually a letter followed by several numbers.
CALLER: Yes, I have it here. It’s N eight four two one. So that’s N, then 8421.
RECEPTIONIST: Thank you. And could you tell me your surname?
CALLER: Haldane. That’s H A L D A N E.
RECEPTIONIST: Great, thank you. And how old are you, Mr Haldane?
CALLER: I’m forty one.
RECEPTIONIST: Before we go any further, I also need to check whether you have any allergies that we should record on the system.
CALLER: Yes, I do. I’m allergic to latex.
RECEPTIONIST: Latex, thank you for letting me know. That’s very important. Now, let’s look at the appointment options. Which day would you prefer?
CALLER: Thursday, if possible. It’s the easiest day for me.
RECEPTIONIST: Thursday is available. We have two appointments that day, one at 9:20 in the morning, and another at 10:40.
CALLER: I’ll take the 9:20 one, please.
RECEPTIONIST: No problem. The appointment will be at our Birkham Street Clinic. That’s B I R K H A M.
CALLER: OK, thank you.
RECEPTIONIST: Please remember to bring your ID card with you. If you also have a vaccination record, you can bring that as well, but it isn’t essential.
CALLER: I’ll make sure I bring my ID card.
RECEPTIONIST: Good. A few practical notes: try to wear a short sleeve top, arrive about five minutes early, and after the vaccine you may have a sore arm for a day. That’s normal. If you feel unwell, drink water and rest. Serious reactions are very rare, but contact us if anything worries you.
CALLER: All right. How much will it cost?
RECEPTIONIST: For adults, the fee is eighteen pounds.
CALLER: That’s fine.
RECEPTIONIST: I’ll confirm it now. You’re booked for Thursday at 9:20 a.m. at the Birkham Street Clinic.
