Part 1: You will hear a caller phoning Eastside Piano Care to book a piano tuning appointment.
RECEPTIONIST: Eastside Piano Care, bookings desk. How can I help? CALLER: Hi, I would like to book a piano tuning, please. RECEPTIONIST: Certainly. Is the piano in a private home? CALLER: Yes, it is at my flat. It has started sounding uneven, especially in the upper notes. RECEPTIONIST: That is common after a move or a change in temperature. What type of piano is it? CALLER: It is an upright. RECEPTIONIST: Great. When would you like the appointment? We cover your area on Tuesdays and Fridays. CALLER: Friday would be best, if possible. RECEPTIONIST: Fine. Before the technician arrives, we ask customers to prepare the room a little. We need access to the back of the piano, so please move any small furniture or plants away from it. CALLER: No problem. RECEPTIONIST: Also, keep the room at a steady temperature for a couple of hours beforehand, and avoid placing a heater right beside the instrument. CALLER: Right, I can do that. RECEPTIONIST: Do you have any pets? CALLER: A cat. RECEPTIONIST: On the day, could you keep it in another room? Some animals get stressed by the sound and the open panels. CALLER: Sure. RECEPTIONIST: Now, can I take your address? CALLER: Yes. It is Maple Court, on Greenway. RECEPTIONIST: Maple Court. Is that the building with the glass entrance? CALLER: Yes, that is the one. RECEPTIONIST: Perfect. When the technician arrives, they should use the glass entrance, not the side gate. There is a doorbell panel, which name is it under? CALLER: It is labelled Reed. That’s R-E-E-D. RECEPTIONIST: Great. Is there anywhere convenient to park? CALLER: There is an underground car park. Visitors can use it for short stays. RECEPTIONIST: That is helpful. The standard tuning fee is ninety five pounds, and that includes a basic check for sticking keys. If the pitch has dropped a lot, we will discuss any extra work before doing it. CALLER: Fine. RECEPTIONIST: Finally, if you need to cancel, we require twenty four hours notice. CALLER: Understood. RECEPTIONIST: Great. We will book you for Friday, and we will send a confirmation message later today. RECEPTIONIST: Before we finish, could I take a mobile number in case the technician is delayed in traffic? We usually give an arrival window on the morning. And please remember to clear the space behind the piano and keep the cat settled away. CALLER: Thanks very much. Goodbye. RECEPTIONIST: Goodbye.
