Part 1: You will hear a conversation between a customer and an agent about booking a pest-proofing inspection.
AGENT: Good morning. SafeHome Pest Control. How can I help you today?
CUSTOMER: Hi. I am calling because I would like to book a pest-proofing inspection for my house, please. I am not entirely sure how this works.
AGENT: That is absolutely fine. Let me just open up a new customer form on my system. Could I start by taking your full name, please?
CUSTOMER: Yes, my name is Laura Bennett.
AGENT: Could you spell your surname for me, just to be sure?
CUSTOMER: Of course. It is B E N N E T T.
AGENT: Great. And what would be the best contact number to reach you on?
CUSTOMER: My mobile number is probably best. It is 0794 661 2385.
AGENT: Let me just read that back. 0794 661 2385.
CUSTOMER: Yes, that is exactly right.
AGENT: Excellent. What is the address for the property that needs the inspection?
CUSTOMER: We are at 18 Willow Crescent. That is in the Eastwood area.
AGENT: Eastwood, right. And can I have the postcode, please? Is it E3 7PL?
CUSTOMER: Yes, it is.
AGENT: Perfect. Now, is this just a routine check, or do you think there is a specific problem at the moment?
CUSTOMER: I think there is definitely a problem. We have recently noticed signs of mice in the kitchen.
AGENT: I understand. What exactly did you notice that made you suspect them?
CUSTOMER: Well, my husband was cleaning up, and we found droppings under the sink. Also, we have been hearing scratching noises at night.
AGENT: I see. Have you noticed any actual damage to your food or packaging?
CUSTOMER: Yes, actually we have. I went to cook dinner last night, and a bag of rice was completely torn open in the bottom cupboard.
AGENT: OK, that is a very typical sign. Just a quick question about the property itself. Is it a flat, or a house?
CUSTOMER: It is a semi-detached house.
AGENT: Thank you. And do you know roughly how old the property is?
CUSTOMER: Let me think. We bought it a few years ago, but I know it was built in the 1980s.
AGENT: Perfect. We have two times available this week. We could do Thursday at 9:30 in the morning, or Friday at 2:15 in the afternoon. Which one suits you best?
CUSTOMER: I work mornings, so Friday afternoon is definitely better for me.
AGENT: Great. I have booked you in for Friday at 2:15.
CUSTOMER: Oh, I almost forgot to ask. How much does the inspection cost?
AGENT: The standard inspection fee is 65 pounds. That includes the call-out and the full written report.
CUSTOMER: OK, that is fine. Thank you very much for your help.
AGENT: You are welcome. Goodbye.
