Part 1: You will hear a man booking an artisan cheese tasting session with a farm employee.
WOMAN: Hello, Valerius Dairy, Beatrice speaking. How can I help you today?
MAN: Oh, hi Beatrice. I’m calling to book a private artisan cheese tasting for a group of friends.
WOMAN: Wonderful! I can certainly arrange that for you. Can I take your name first?
MAN: Yes, it’s Oliver Vannack.
WOMAN: Vannack… Could you spell your surname for me?
MAN: Sure, it’s V-A-N-N-A-C-K.
WOMAN: Thank you, Oliver. Now, how many people will be attending? Our main tasting room comfortably holds up to eighteen guests.
MAN: Let me think. Initially there were going to be eleven of us. But three more friends just called to say they want to join, so we will be exactly 14. Is that alright?
WOMAN: Yes, 14 is absolutely fine. We have plenty of room for that size. And what day were you hoping to visit? We currently run our guided tastings from Thursday through to Monday.
MAN: Well, we originally thought about booking for Monday, but a few people are working. So, we’d prefer Sunday if you have any availability left.
WOMAN: Let me check my diary. Yes, Sunday afternoon is completely free. We start with a brief tour of the production area. You don’t need any special footwear, but the farm provides a heavy apron for everyone to wear, just to keep your clothes clean.
MAN: That sounds fun. And what about the actual tasting?
WOMAN: We feature four unique cheeses. We always start with our aged goat cheese. It has a surprisingly mild and creamy texture.
MAN: Oh, my wife will love that. What’s next?
WOMAN: Then we move to a soft variety. For this one, we fold in some local honey, which gives it a lovely sweet kick. It’s very popular.
MAN: Delicious. Do we just drink water with these?
WOMAN: We do provide water, but the whole board is actually served with our homemade cider. It really brings out the rich flavours perfectly.
MAN: Sounds amazing. Will we be able to buy anything to take home?
WOMAN: Definitely. Our farm shop will be open. Your tasting ticket also gives you a nice discount on all biscuits. We bake them fresh every morning.
MAN: Perfect. I’ll probably grab some of those. Where should we leave our cars? I know rural roads can be narrow.
WOMAN: We have a large parking area. Just drive past the main farmhouse and you’ll see a big space directly behind the barn. Please use that spot.
MAN: Understood. Behind the barn. Lastly, how much will this cost per person?
WOMAN: Usually, our standard sessions are forty-two pounds. But since you have a large group, we can offer a reduced rate of 38 pounds each.
MAN: That’s a great deal. 38 pounds it is. I’ll get my card out to pay the deposit.
