Part 2: You will hear a nature reserve manager giving a talk to a group of visitors.
Hello everyone, and welcome to the nature reserve. I am the lead ranger here. I am thrilled to see so many of you ready to explore our wonderful trails today. Before you head out, I want to share a few updates and guidelines with you.
First, I must give a massive shoutout to our dedicated volunteers. They have been incredibly busy this week. We usually have them picking up rubbish around the picnic areas, but right now, their main task is painting the fences around the reserve perimeter. They are doing this because the paths were already repaired last month.
Now, regarding your visit today, I want to give a quick tip about clothing. The sun is shining, and it is actually quite warm out there, so you definitely will not need to wear thick coats. However, because we had some heavy showers last night, the trails are incredibly muddy and slippery. Therefore, a pair of sturdy shoes is absolutely essential to ensure you do not slip. Sun hats are not really needed since you will be under the tree canopy most of the time.
When you reach the bird hides, please keep our updated guidelines in mind. You can keep your mobile phones on silent, and photography is perfectly fine. However, the strictest new rule we have introduced is that eating and drinking is not allowed inside any of the observation areas, simply because dropped crumbs were attracting mice.
For those of you joining our guided walk later, let me clarify the timing. We used to run a short 50-minute tour, but people felt rushed. The advanced hike takes 90 minutes, which is too long for some families. So, our standard guided walk today will take exactly 60 minutes.
Finally, before you set off, you might want to grab something from the reception desk. If you forgot your gear, we rent out a pair of binoculars for a small charge. We do not have an umbrella to lend out if it rains, but we do have several walking sticks available, and you can borrow those completely free of charge.
Alright, let us look at the map so you know where you are going. We are currently standing at the Visitor Centre at the bottom of your map.
If you walk straight up the main path, look to your left before you reach the junction. You will see an open grassy space with some logs arranged in a circle. This is our designated Picnic Area, perfect for a quick snack.
Now, looking over on the opposite side of the main path, also before the junction, there is a small shed with some metal hoops outside. This is the Bicycle Parking. Please leave your bikes here instead of taking them on the trails.
If you continue just a few steps further along that same right side of the main path, still before you get to the junction, you will find a larger wooden cabin marked with a cross on the roof. This is the Medical Facility, so head there if you get any minor scrapes.
Now, continue to the junction itself. If you turn onto the right path, you will pass a silent zone. Just follow this right path all the way to its absolute end, right by the water’s edge, where you will reach the Lakeside Hide. It gives you a wonderful, uninterrupted view straight across the main lake.
Finally, returning to the main junction, take the left path instead. Simply follow this path, crossing over the wooden boardwalk, all the way into the dense trees. Right at the very end of this left path, you will discover the Woodland Hide. It is wonderfully quiet and isolated. Okay, any questions before we go?
