Part 1: You will hear a conversation between a community manager and a prospective member touring a co-working space.
OLIVER: Hi there. I’m Oliver, the community manager here at The Hive. You must be Ruby?
RUBY: Yes, hi Oliver. Thanks for showing me around. I’m looking for a place to work a few days a week.
OLIVER: Let’s start with our memberships. Most freelancers go for the Basic tier. However, if you want to leave things overnight in a locker, you’ll need our Standard package. It also gives you hot desking downstairs.
RUBY: That sounds useful. Carrying my heavy bag gets tiring. Do I pay extra to bring a client in?
OLIVER: If you get the Premium upgrade, it actually includes ten hours a month in the conference room. You just book it through our mobile app.
RUBY: Perfect. What about the kitchen facilities?
OLIVER: The coffee machine takes coins, but we provide an unlimited supply of tea for free. We’ve got Earl Grey, peppermint, you name it.
RUBY: Great. I drink a lot of that. And is printing included?
OLIVER: Everyone gets an allowance. You can print up to 60 pages each month at no extra cost.
RUBY: I usually keep things digital anyway. Now, how do I actually get into the building? Is there a pin code?
OLIVER: No code. Reception will issue you a badge. You just tap it on the scanner by the front door.
RUBY: Got it. Are there any local perks to working here?
OLIVER: Definitely. If you show your membership app, you get a fifteen percent reduction at the gym just down the road. It’s really popular.
RUBY: That’s a nice bonus. Do you organize events for people to meet each other?
OLIVER: Yes, community is important here. We hold a networking lunch every Friday afternoon. It’s very informal, just a chance to chat.
RUBY: That sounds great. Now, if I have a client coming in, what’s the procedure?
OLIVER: They sign in at the front desk. We do require them to bring a passport as photo identification, though. A driving license isn’t accepted anymore.
RUBY: Okay, I’ll remind them beforehand. And one final thing, where can I safely leave my bicycle?
OLIVER: Please don’t chain it outside. We have a secure basement downstairs. Just wheel it down the ramp.
RUBY: Fantastic. That’s a relief, as my bike is quite new and I worry about leaving it on the street. Where exactly is the main entrance located?
OLIVER: The building’s main entrance is actually on Milton Street. That’s M-I-L-T-O-N. The ramp is just around the corner. Let’s go see the desks now.
