Part 2: You will hear a monologue about an upcoming local arts event.
EVENT DIRECTOR: Hello everyone and welcome to the Bramley Arts Hub for our tenth anniversary Open Studios event. While we do not quite have the record-breaking number of artists we hosted five years ago, it is still wonderful to see such a massive turnout today. And although organizing this took much longer than previous years, the months of preparation have truly paid off.
We focus on a fresh concept every year. While we looked at local history last year, today our artists have dedicated their work to the use of sustainable materials. As you walk around, you will see pieces crafted from recycled metals and natural dyes. We briefly considered digital innovation, but we have decided to save that for the future.
Regarding your entry today, we have made a significant change. In previous years, you signed in at every individual studio. Unfortunately, that caused congestion in the hallways. So today, your registration must be done online beforehand via your smartphone. It is a smoother process and means we do not need printed badges anymore, which helps us cut down on paper waste.
I also recommend our Meet the Maker sessions. These are a great chance to chat with creators. They are running all day and are free of charge. However, they have a very limited seating capacity in the small studios. You will definitely want to arrive early for each session to secure a spot for yourself.
Later this afternoon, we are hosting a charity auction. A few people asked if it will be in the main gallery like last year, but we have actually moved it to the courtyard cafe. This way, you can grab a coffee while bidding on the art. We originally hoped to use the sculpture garden, but the weather forecast looked too poor for an outdoor event.
Finally, please do not forget to vote for the People’s Choice Award. Instead of filling out a paper form or scanning a QR code, we are keeping it tactile. You just need to pick up a small wooden token at the front desk and drop it in a designated box outside your favorite artist’s room.
Right, let’s get you oriented. We are currently at the Main Reception, facing north towards the central courtyard.
To find the Pottery Workshop, walk straight out of the reception into the courtyard and turn immediately right. Walk past the restrooms, and it is the large building at the end of that path.
Next is the Textile Studio. From reception, go through the courtyard and you will see a wooden bridge over the pond. Cross that bridge, and the Textile Studio is the building directly in front of you.
For the Photography Darkroom, head east from reception, that is towards your right. Walk down the walkway, past the staff offices. At the very end, there are two rooms. The darkroom is the one on your left.
The Glassblowing Pavilion is always popular. From reception, head into the courtyard and take the diagonal path northwest, passing the old fountain. You will reach a completely circular grassy area. The pavilion is the standalone round structure situated right in the middle of that circle.
Lastly, children will love the Children’s Art Tent. From the courtyard, just look towards the top right corner of the grounds. It is the large tent situated right up against the back fence. Have a fantastic day!
