Part 2: You will hear a service announcement from CityLink Buses about a road closure and a diversion.
Good afternoon everyone. This is a service announcement from CityLink Buses. King Road is being closed for urgent repair work, so buses won’t be able to use the normal route through the centre of town.
Please look at the map on your handout. High Street runs along the top of the map, and Station Road runs along the bottom. King Road is the main road running north to south through the middle, and Lake Road is on the right-hand side, curving down and joining Station Road near the bottom.
I’ll go through the main landmarks first, so you can follow the diversion clearly. On High Street, at the far left, is the library. If you move east along High Street towards the junction with King Road, you’ll come to the supermarket, which is still on High Street but much closer to the crossroads. Directly across the junction, on the right-hand side of High Street, is the hospital.
Just below High Street, on the left of King Road, you’ll find the museum. It is set slightly back from the main road, and it’s right beside the small café shown on the map, so that café can be used as a handy point of reference.
Now, because King Road is closed, buses will not travel down that central road at all. Instead, they will continue along High Street and then turn onto Lake Road, following it south to reach Station Road. To help passengers who normally use stops on King Road, we are introducing a temporary bus stop. This temporary stop is in the block on the right-hand side of King Road, above the lake bend, and it sits between King Road and Lake Road. It has been placed there because the road is straight enough for buses to pull in safely before they follow the curve.
As a result of the diversion, many passengers will be walking via the open area on the left of the map. The park is the large area in the centre-left, to the west of King Road, stretching down towards Station Road. You can still cross this area on foot as usual, but please allow extra time if you need to reach the temporary stop on the other side of King Road.
Also, please be aware of the primary school on Station Road. It is on the left-hand side of Station Road, directly below the park. The pavement gets busy around school start and finish times, so take extra care, especially if you are travelling with children.
Finally, the bus station remains open and services will still start and finish there. It is at the bottom right of the map, further east along Station Road, beyond the junction where Lake Road meets Station Road. Although buses will reach it by travelling down Lake Road instead of King Road, the station itself is unchanged.
Now let me add a few details about the diversion. We’re keeping the normal timetable, but because buses are using Lake Road and making a slower turn, journeys can take about ten minutes longer at busy times. Fares are unchanged, so you can use your usual tickets and passes with no extra charge.
As for the temporary stop, it will be shared by two different routes, so please check the route number and destination display. The kerb is lowered there, so it’s wheelchair accessible. Thank you for your patience while King Road is closed.
